About

The Salvation Army is a Protestant Christian denomination and international charitable organization that has been active in Ghana since 1922. We combine evangelical ministry with social services, operating under a military-style structure with ranks such as "Lieutenant" and "Major."

Our mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in His name without discrimination. We focus on areas such as education, poverty relief, and social services, helping millions of people worldwide.

History in Ghana

The Salvation Army was introduced to the Gold Coast (now Ghana) in 1922 by King Hudson (also known as Amoako Atta), a native of Agona Duakwa in the Central Region. Initially part of the West African Territory with headquarters in Lagos, Nigeria, the Ghana Territory became independent in 1960. Since then, we have expanded across all regions of Ghana, establishing numerous corps (churches) and societies.

Worship Services

Our churches conduct regular worship services, primarily on Sundays. For example, the Kotobabi Corps in Accra holds services from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM GMT. Services include praise and worship, Bible readings, sermons, prayer sessions, and testimonies. We also host weekday activities such as prayer meetings, Bible studies, and youth fellowships.

Community Impact

We are deeply involved in social services, including healthcare through clinics and health centers, education through schools and programs, disaster relief for victims of natural disasters, and rehabilitation centers for those facing various challenges. Our services aim to meet human needs without discrimination.
